Q. I need to do a research paper on lying

Professor Melissa Rocha's class is focusing on the topic of "lying" and I need to write an argumentative paper.  How do I get started?

Approach this research process is multiple steps:

Begin with books and encyclopedic material to gain a general, academic understanding of your topic and the issues therein.  Use keywords and subject terms: "deception" and "lying" produced very robust results.

  • Gale Virtual Reference Library (click the link into the A-Z Database link provided, or navigate to the research guide), SIRS and Salem Press are all encyclopedia articles that you may use.
  • The Library Catalog and look for books.
  • Finally, for academic journals, navigate to EBSCO (Academic Search Premiere) or Academic One File databases, and try combining keywords and subject terms.  For example: deception AND children, or deception AND romantic relationships...you get the point.

And if you have difficulty understanding "getting"  any of this, don't wait, come in and talk to a librarian today!
