Q. villains and heroes

I need to do a research paper on heroes or villains.

Approach this research process is multiple steps:

Begin with books and encyclopedic material to gain a general, academic understanding of your topic and the issues therein.  Use keywords and subject terms: "heroes" and "villain" produced very robust results.

  • Use the Research Guide prepared for this topic (whether Fries is your professor it doesn't matter, use the guide to get an overall picture of Best Bet library resources).
  • Gale Virtual Reference Library (click the link into the A-Z Database link provided, or navigate to the research guide), SIRS and Salem Press are all encyclopedia articles that you may use.
  • The Library Catalog and look for books.
  • Finally, for academic journals, navigate to EBSCO (Academic Search Premiere) or Academic One File databases, and try combining keywords and subject terms.  For example: hero AND underdog, or villain AND evil ...you get the point.

This is a VERY BIG TOPIC, but librarians are experts at finding useful, timely and ACADEMIC research.  Come in and talk to one of us today!  Send us an email too: refdesk@mccd.edu
