What is the Research Instruction Room?

Answer

Library Classroom

LRC-222 is the library's classroom, and it's also used as a classroom for other courses. The library faculty use it to teach in-person workshops and class sessions for courses that have research projects, though librarians may also go out to your classroom.

We often work with faculty in other disciplines to teach all kinds of research-related concepts and skills. You might have a class taught by a librarian where you work on a concept map to brainstorm your research ideas, learn strategies for turning an idea into a research question, learn how to read scholarly, peer-reviewed articles, practice strategies for evaluating news, learn to use keywords and operators in library databases, find government statistics online, cite sources to up your credibility as a student researcher, apply a Creative Commons license to your projects, or even learn how the open access movement is shaping how folks access scientific information. There's a wide variety of topics!

We also offer workshops through Zoom and have a ton of online research guides and tutorials. You might even complete a library assignment or module in Canvas.

Additionally, consider taking LRNR 30 Information Concepts & Research Skills, a three unit credit course taught by the librarians that counts as an elective. The course is often taught as a hybrid, so the in-person sessions are usually held in LRC-222.
