placing holds or requesting items from the catalog
How do I place a hold on an item in OneSearch, the online library catalog, for later pickup? Is this the same as requesting an item through interlibrary loan?
Answer
Placing a Hold "Request Item"
To Request an Item from the online library catalog OneSearch, users need to sign in with Merced College credentials (username and password). Once signed in, users will have the option to "Request Item" from this screen:
Pickup location: Choose whichever location you will retrieve the item from. If the item is located at a different campus, allow an extra 2 working days for the item to transit to your location.
Pickup date: Choose a date you won't need the item thereafter, like the end of the semester, or a three weeks from now.
Comment: Add any extra information you want the librarian to know about your request.
Interlibrary Loan Request
If you are searching for an article or book the library does not own, we can get it through interlibrary loan. This is a different process from putting an item on hold, and requires a separate form.
Make requests for books or articles using the appropriate form below. You will need the citation information and your student ID number to fill out either form. If your request can’t be filled, you will be notified by campus email. You will also be notified by campus email when the book or article arrives.
- Book Request Form – use only for books (excluding textbooks)
- Periodical Request Form – use only for periodicals: magazines, journals, newspapers, newsletters, or anything that is not a book
